Biography

Holding a Master of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of New Orleans, Ying-Chen Lin is the first Taiwanese instrumentalist to complete her academic and musical training in the birthplace of jazz before returning to Taiwan. She is currently a Taiwan performing artist for Japan's Yanagisawa Saxophones. Her music is deeply rooted in the profound traditions of jazz, while actively expanding into free improvisation and contemporary cross-disciplinary experimentation, showcasing exceptional musical inclusivity and versatility.

Recognized as a "Rising Star" by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of New Taipei City, Lin has spearheaded The Resonance of Female Creation since 2024—an all-female creative initiative dedicated to exploring the sonic practice of contemporary feminine energy.

Beyond performance and composition, Lin has dedicated over a decade to jazz education, focusing on the systematic promotion of "jazz literacy." A former artist-in-residence for the Ministry of Education’s Arts Cultivation Project, she currently serves as an instructor at the Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University (HSNU) and CIMS International School. Additionally, she is the conductor for both the New Taipei City Xintai Junior High School Jazz Big Band and the TMJO, as well as the bandleader of the King Cake New Orleans Jazz Band.
